Worksite Wellness

U.S. employees spend an average of 50 hours a week and eat about one-third of their meals at work. When polled, about 40 percent of these same workers also indicate that they feel "very" or "extremely" stressed at work.

To help employees address these feelings and adopt healthier lifestyle habits -- including healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco cessation and stress management -- the State Health Plan encourages our members to start or participate in a wellness program at their workplace.
 
In October 2008, the North Carolina Office of State Personnel (OSP) posted an enhanced version of the Worksite Wellness Policy that impacts state employees within universities and agencies.  The OSP, the NC Division of Public Health and the State Health Plan have developed materials to guide Wellness Leaders and Worksite Wellness Committees through their adoption of this policy.  Materials, including those referenced in the Worksite Wellness Policy, may be found under Resources. How do I get started?

The NC HealthSmart Worksite Wellness Toolkit includes posters, “how to get started” tips, employee materials and much more. This Worksite Wellness Web site also includes presentations, brochures and data that can help you organize and sustain a wellness program where you work. These tools are designed for use by state agencies, public universities, community colleges, and public schools.
